In the Astronomers Wife by Kay Boyle, something Essay In the Astronomers Wife by Kay Boyle, something as basic as a discussion with a handyman about a halted elbow is sufficient to trigger an enlivening in Mrs. Katherine Ames. At the point when Mrs. Ames understood that the handyman was looking at something she comprehended (the halted elbow), she understood that her conjugal issues were not the aftereffect of a division betwwen the genders; rather, she understood that a few men, similar to the handyman, are as reasonable as she seems to be, and that some other men, similar to her significant other, disdain individuals like her since they are intellectuallyinclined. Past to this disclosure, Katherine didn't understand that there were various types of men, andtherefore she didn't understand that she and her better half were befuddled. Moreover, inher arousing, Mrs. Ames likewise finds that she, similar to the handyman, possesses as important aplace in the public arena as the stargazer, for she accomplishes the grimy work to free individuals like her significant other to have the opportunity to think and to find. The scene being referred to happens after Mrs. Ames has just seen that the handyman has a couple of physical attributes that coordinate her own, (for example, fair hair), and she is talkingto him as he dives into the earth. The scene starts following the handyman saysI think something has halted the elbow, since this expression was one of only a handful barely any things that aman has ever said that Mrs. Ames has comprehended. After the handyman has slipped into the ground before the scene, Mrs. Ames is the just one remaining. She spends the whole length of this scene sitting onthe grass, quietly thinking and uncovering her contemplations to the crowd. During her course of reasoning, Mrs. Ames makes the significant revelation that there is an entire race of useful individuals such as herself, people the same. She realized that when her better half discussed tallness, having no feeling of it, she was unable to picture it nor hear, butstrangely enough, when another man who happened to be a plumer talked about his work, madnessin a day by day shape, as elbow halted, she saw unmistakably and well. Mrs Ames at long last acknowledged duringthese musings that these were two men with two unique lifestyles, and maybe herway of life fit the handymen more than the cosmologists, in that she also could recognize onlywith day by day concerns. The division between individuals in her psyche was not, at this point just among people; it was nowthe working and the reasoning, the individuals who had consistently gone up, and other people who went down, likethe bodily being of the dead. She presently perceived that there were both physical and profound individuals, herself and the handyman being the previous, and her better half being thelatter. The topic is uncovered in the manner that these two classes of individuals, the toilers and the masterminds, respond to the world. The individuals who work with their hands, when they see weedsspringing up, don't move to destroy them from life. At the end of the day, individuals like Mrs, Ames, after recognizingsomething that possesses a similar situation in the public eye that they do, for example, the frequently poorly respected weed, don't feel constrained to wreck it. Weeds, similar to the laborers, albeit consideredugly, are as vital for nature to be in balance as the more wonderful bloom seems to be. However, people like the space expert could adjust and separate, get rid of, obliterate. This indicatesthat individuals with grandiose aspirations, similar to the space expert, don't respect the ordinary citizens asnecessary for the world to run easily, and would prefer to crush them. The astronomerdoes not understand that by unclogging channels and performing other such errands, th ose individuals have allowedhim to be allowed to consider huge scope issues. Cooperation between the two typesof individuals is essential, regardless of whether it is possible that one understands it, for the world to work. .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30 , .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30 .postImageUrl , .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30 .focused content zone { min-tallness: 80px; position: relative; } .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30 , .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30:hover , .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30:visited , .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30:active { border:0!important; } .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30 { show: square; change: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-progress: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; obscurity: 1; progress: haziness 250ms; webkit-change: darkness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30:active , .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30:hover { murkiness: 1; change: mistiness 250ms; webkit-progress: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30 .focused content territory { width: 100%; position: relat ive; } .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30 .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content design: underline; } .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; fringe span: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: striking; line-stature: 26px; moz-outskirt sweep: 3px; content adjust: focus; content embellishment: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: total; right: 0; top: 0; } .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa 871938ca15cb0e30 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .ue34c74c9b93bd1fa871938ca15cb0e30:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Walmart EssayThe Astronomers Wife is a phenomenal short story that draws out the regularly forgottenpoint that both the down to earth individuals and the eager visionaries are significant for eachothers endurance. Debate About Same-Sex Marriage Essay

One of America’s most discussed gives today is the Same-Sex Marriage. Truth be told, gay marriage has been authorized in nine States in America. Being a piece of the Christian people group, we really differ to this for it is a wrongdoing as we consider it and we don't need to reconsider in negating this subject. Be that as it may, it doesn’t hurt to speak a little about this. Same-sex marriage will be authorized is most nations sometime in the not so distant future. The inescapable are being deferred by the ages who go before us and administer our properties. A great deal of youngsters don't understand the immensity, all things considered, We heard many individuals state that they acknowledge homosexuality, however that they don’t believe that the entire â€Å"marriage† thing is significant.. All things considered, it clearly is. Since when marriage occurs, the things on an individual level are not simply the ones influenced. One’s account, future, status, protection, contract, thus a lot more will likewise be influenced. On the off chance that the administration doesn't perceive your equivalent sex accomplice as your better half/spouse, a great deal of confused circumstances, regarding desk work and equity, will emerge. Also, that’s why we think it should be authorized. ‘’Jesus never let out the slightest peep about homosexuality. In the entirety of his lessons about numerous things †he never said that gay individuals ought to be denounced. I for one think it is fine for gay individuals to be hitched in common ceremonies.’’ †Jimmy Carter. Love has no limits, they state. Be that as it may, when alluding to cherish, does that mean the love between a man and a lady or the fondness between two people, in any case the sexuality? Actually, we think, the word ‘sexuality’ from the expression ‘regardless the sexuality’ can be alluded as a limit from the statement ‘’Love has no boundaries,’’ †which ought not be an obstacle in discovering genuine romance. Picture a x-beam photo of two skeletons indicating warmth by kissing. The second you take a gander at it, you are gradually being confounded by the interest on the off chance that it is a young lady and a kid, a kid and a kid, a young lady and a young lady, or even a dark man and a white lady. Simply the straightforwardness of the association and the excellence of the two people sharing affection is all that should matter. Love wins underneath such skin. Be that as it may, the organization of marriage has generally been characterized as between a man and a lady. It is accepted that marriage is the association of man and lady, remarkably including the reproduction and raising of kids inside a family. Legitimizing same-sex marriage would debilitate the regard for the genuine meaning of marriage. The legitimateness of marriage has been experiencing a couple of irregularities †having numerous spouses; being alright of wedding your own family members; the most recent contention, same-sex marriage; and possibly soon, the authorization of wedding a creature. In the event that equivalent sex marriage is to be affirmed, it will just beginning a chain response which will in the long run ruin the substance of marriage. Another drawback would be carried on as a weight and humiliation by their kid, and an affront menaces can use against them. That is, if at any point a gay family anticipates receiving their own youngster. The youngster will have such a large number of inquiries †why he has two dads or perhaps why he has two moms, why he doesn't have an ordinary family. Regardless of how careful and reasonable their clarification is, if the kid sees a typical family makes: a mother, a dad, and a youngster, and he/she knows that solitary a man and a lady can manage kids, at that point interest and disarray will simply hit their kid harder. Being a piece of the Christian people group, we accept that marriage is for people and kinship is for two people of a similar sexuality. Truly, cherishing a similar sex doesn't hurt anybody, yet it simply doesn't speak to the way of life we have learned and have been instructed. God has made lady for man, and man for lady. Standing to His standard is a demonstration of wickedness. Marriage is of the seven holy observances Catholic Church. It isn't something an individual can simply design the day preceding and do the following day. It is very much idea and arranged for. For this is a dedication not exclusively to your accomplice yet in addition to God. Fundamentally, we endorse of gay connections yet not gay marriage.

Nike Essays - Nike, Inc., Employment Compensation, Labour Relations

Nike The athletic clothing industry wherein Nike is included is a significant cash producer in the United States, however the way that none of the production lines are situated in North America has carried some warmth to the organization. Nike controls in excess of 40 percent of the U.S. Market for sports related merchandise, however doesn't have a solitary shoe production line in this nation (Miller 1). Nike keeps on making a huge number of dollars yet abuses laborers abroad by paying them practically nothing, while at the same time requiring extended periods of time without extra time pay in processing plants that are not up to ?American? standard. Nike subcontractors utilize almost 500,000 laborers in plants in Indonesia, China and Vietnam (Saporito 1). The misuse of laborers in Third World districts, where most of Nike's work is done flashes a dubious issue. Individuals question can any anyone explain why Nike proceeds with these practices. As per ?Just do it, Nike,? Nike appears to be particularly enamored with working together in undemocratic nations like China and Indonesia, where the military can be depended upon to ?split heads? in the event that laborers escape line (Miller 2). The military checking has been a huge discussion because of the way that these are regularly Chinese neutralizing other Chinese specialists, or Vietnamese against their own kin too. For Nike there are two advantages: it's a modest method to screen in an abroad processing plant and it makes a sheaper work workforce. Thus making the work less expensive for Nike. This makes it feasible for Nike laborers from the states to take a shot at different things and possibly visit the plants when nessecary. While as yet expecting a steady workforce without great compensation. The pundits of Nikes work rehearses have taken visits and seen the abuse firsthand. Time magazine announced saying,? The plants were seen as present day and spotless, well lit and ventilated and paying a not too bad compensation by nearby standards?although in no way, shape or form are they inconvenience free. No doubt about it: these are plants not entertainment meccas, and even in creating Asia, where employments are rare and getting scarcer, this isn't the activity of decision.? (Saporito 1) The wages that the laborers abroad are paid is nothing when contrasted with the amount we pay for a couple of shoes or the benefit that CEO Phil Knight is making off his sportswear goliath he once worked out of the rear of his vehicle as an understudy. ?A major issue that encompasses sweatshops is wage. The lowest pay permitted by law regularly doesn't mirror the typical cost for basic items.? (Hepner Online) Is the pay reasonable? There are numerous individuals who feel the compensation is reasonable and the average cost for basic items is considered when the pay is taken a gander at, however contemplates show in any case in numerous manufacturing plants. Just as of late, CNN detailed a raise to passage level laborers in Indonesia, Nike authorities said ?the expansion will raise the base month to month pay package?which incorporates rewards, lodging, human services, transportation and feast recompenses to around $37.14 a month.?(Nike Establishes Labor? On the web) To numerous individuals living in the U.S., that bundle may sound great anyway the remuneration bundle doesn't get rid of the extended periods of time, the poor conditions or the low pace of pay. Huge numbers of these laborers are small kids attempting to help bolster their families. The advantages don't compensate for the low compensation rates that keep them in the work power. The compensation is sufficiently just to get by where these kids need to be sparing so as to leave the processing plants and get back. In ?Taking a Look inside Nike's Factories?, some portion of Bill Saporito's, ?Can Nike Get Unstuck this is what was found. ?Americans pay $100 for a couple of shoes that a specialist gets under $3 per day to make. They pay Michael Jordan $40 million to underwrite them. Wouldn't they be able to discover more cash to pay the laborers? The short answer is no, in light of the fact that enterprises pay the going rate for work whereever they are.? (Saporito 1) If this announcement is genuine Nike pays the compensation for the nation the manufacturing plant is in, at that point what is the contention about? Quite a bit of it originates from the additional time that these laborers are compelled to work without after some time remuneration. Here in the United States there are guidelines set

Public Health Problem Of The United States - 1677 Words

Public Health Problem One of the growing public health problems in the United States today is the spread of the human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, among the American population. Beginning in the 1980s, the U.S. public health system has been working vigorously to come up with effective methods for preventing the spread of this debilitating virus. HIV has persistently stayed within the human population due to the continual transmission of the disease. Before widespread transmission of HIV, the two most transmissible way of contracting the disease was either using unsterile needles for drug use or by unprotected sex with partners who were infected – most of the infected individuals in the 1980s were those who were or had been in homosexual relationships. Since then, HIV has gained a larger host population, with most transmissions occurring due to unprotected sex, although a smaller percentage of transmissions occur due to unsafe drug use. Several factors have caused HIV to con tinue to exist in the population. One factor is stigmatism towards the disease. An article by Ronald Valdiserri (2002) discussed a study done in the 1990s and early 2000s about people’s perception of HIV and HIV screening. The article concluded that about one fifth of the general population either feared individuals with HIV or believed that those who got infected got what they deserved (p. 341-342). The Teaching Assistant’s Role in the Classroom Frequently students take courses taught at least partially by teaching assistants. The exact duties of teaching assistants (TAs) vary by institution, department, and instructor. Some TAs grade essays. Others conduct labs and discussion sections of classes. Still, others work alongside faculty in course planning, preparing and delivering lectures, and creating and grading exams. Depending on the professor the TA may act much like an instructor with supervised control of the course. At many universities, students have lots of contact with TAs but not as much as faculty members. Because of this, many applicants feel that a TA knows them best and is able to write on their behalf. Is it a good idea to request a recommendation letter from a teaching assistant? Who to Ask for a Recommendation Your letter should come from professors who know you well and can attest to your abilities. Seek letters from professors who taught courses in which you excelled and those with whom you have worked. Most students have no difficulty identifying one or two faculty members who are well qualified to write on their behalf but the third letter is often very challenging. It may seem like the instructors you have the most experience with and who perhaps best understand your work are TAs. Should you ask for a recommendation letter from a TA? Generally, no. Teaching Assistants are Not Preferred Letter Writers Consider the purpose of the recommendation letter. Professors offer a perspective that graduate student teaching assistants cannot. They have taught a greater number of students for a greater number of years and with that experience, they are better able to judge applicants’ abilities and promise. Moreover, graduate programs want professors’ expertise. Graduate student teaching assistants do not have the perspective or the experience to judge potential or provide a recommendation as they are still students. They have not finished their Ph.D.s, are not professors nor do they have professional experience to be able to judge an undergraduate potential for success in graduate school. In addition, some faculty and admissions committees hold a negative view of recommendation letters from TAs. A recommendation letter from a teaching assistant might damage your application and reduce your odds of acceptance. Consider a Collaborative Letter While a letter from a TA is not helpful, a TA might provide information and details to inform a professor’s letter. The TA may know you better than a professor in charge of the course, but is the professors word that has more merit. Speak with the TA and the professor to request a letter signed by both. In many cases, the TA might provide the meat of your letter – the details, the examples, the explanation of personal qualities. The professor may then weigh in as the professor is in a better position to evaluate you and to compare you with current and prior students. If you seek a collaborative letter be sure to give information to both the TA and professor to ensure that both have the information they need to write a helpful letter of recommendation

My Views On Psychology And Psychology - 1222 Words

After researching multiple different psychological theories I was still unsure of which theory best fits my views on human behavior. On one hand, I agree with humanistic psychologists since I truly believe that people have free will and can considerably steer themselves on to any life path they wish. I’m also convinced that the majority of people are capable of evaluating themselves and knowing if personal behaviors are positive or negative. However, I also think, much like psychoanalytic psychologists, that our life as children can directly affect life during in adulthood. I also believe that we have an unconscious mind and that often personality traits are out of our control. Overall, I believe that our personality and brain functions are determined at a young age due to environmental and genetic reasons. Furthermore, I believe that these traits aren’t set in stone. If I needed to pick just one theory that most closely resembles my beliefs, I would say Neo-Freudian. The Book Of Joel Is A Negative Impact On Christians And...

Introduction The book of Joel is one of the shortest books in the Old Testament, yet it is has had a widespread impact on Christians and their theology from the time it was written right through history to the people of today. The fact that Joel is labelled as a minor prophet substantially discounts from the great impact that his words have, not only on the New Testament writers, with many of them directly quoting or alluding to his words, but also on the Church today. The book of Joel is widely accepted as being written after the conclusion of the Babylonian exile , although some scholars still argue a pre-exilic dating on Joel’s work and lifetime. Nevertheless, according to the majority, Joel’s writing falls in a time of devastation amidst a locust plague, drought and a period of diaspora caused by the exile wherein many of the Jews were dispersed from their homeland. The book of Joel takes the form of apocalyptic literature: writing that is full of symbolism and cod e. This form of writing is also applied in the books of Daniel and Revelation. However, if we take a deeper inspection of the writing of Joel, amidst the symbolism and prophetic language, the fundamental themes of the biblical story are portrayed: the people’s separation from God, their need for repentance, and God’s redeeming grace, also known as â€Å"the Day of the Lord†. Through the eyes of Joel, as he lives through this epoch of great desperation, we see the theme of â€Å"the Day of the Lord† as beingShow MoreRelatedSda Manual Essay101191 Words   |  405 Pagesindicated, all Bible texts are from the King James Version. Appropriation Of Culture And Its Effects On Foreign Countries

Appropriation of culture Cultural is where a group of people develop common ideas, common ways of doing things and common interpretation of certain things. Culture has great influence on foreign countries. People often from other countries get attracted to cultural aspects of other countries. Culture has great influence on media, politics and people’s everyday life. I experienced a pop culture moment where a group of white women was wearing sari (a cloth that is draped around the woman s body; it mostly seen in South Asia). I saw how culture could be imported instead of being exported. However, those women didn t wear the sari correctly, which arose a question in my mind. Do people wear, ethnic cloth because they respect it or they mock the cultural by not wearing correctly? This question is about appreciation and appropriation of culture. This topic is very imporatant to me because I was being bullied in middle school because of my cultural coth and food. Adopting another culture is natural because o f interaction between a group of people and it s also because everyone is so diverse now. However when does appropriation or offending other culture comes up? Appropriation can be viewed positively and negatively. Canadian Economy and Monetary Policy Effectiveness

Question: Discuss about the Canadian Economy and Monetary Policy Effectiveness. Answer: Introduction The paper intends to study in detail the economy of Canada. The paper will look at the various aspects of central bank functioning in the country; economic situation in the country. The economic scenario of the country needs to be looked in conjunction with the central bank and its measures. The central bank of aggressive economies generally front loads interest rate cuts to fuel economic growth. However we will discuss all this aspects in relation to the Canadian economy. We will all discuss views on recent comments by Mr. Morrison (Australian Chief Treasurer) and see how and if fits the Canadian economy conjunction. The paper also intends to look at how central banks and its chief measures which is the monetary policy as a tool becoming less effective. Some recent major economist have over the last few years have commented on how monetary policy as a tool is becoming really ineffective. The other concern which has been ailing the markets has been the results of the presidential ele ction in United States. Markets were expecting that democrat candidate will win the election and there will be no major changes or stance shift in the economy of United States. However the unexpected win of Republican Candidate Donald Trump, has increased uncertainty in the global markets. Market participants are jittery over the unexpected turn of events and capital flights has already started towards safe haven assets. The other concern which is line with the uncertainty, is the stance of Federal Reserve in upcoming times. Will the Federal Reserve be able to maintain the continuity in the system or the market participants are in for a surprise are some of the key questions which need answer in the near future. Role of Central Bank in the economy The Central Bank of Canada is known by the common name Bank of Canada. As any other Central Bank the core function of the bank is to maintain low level of inflation in the economy. As a developed nation this is not a major challenge, the major challenge for Bank of Canada lies in maintaining the growth momentum in the economy alongside minimum level of inflation. As per the charter of Bank of Canada, it is defined that four major functions of the bank is to maintain proper monetary position using monetary policy; creating a safe and sound financial system in the economy of Canada; design and issue currency of the country from time to time as per the requirement of the nation; and finally manage the funds for the government. At the end of the day Central Bank of the country is actually a chief banker to the government of the country. It manages the fund on behalf of the government and maintain financial stability of the country. Mr. Morrisons view on effectiveness of monetary policy In one of the recent interview with ABC television, Mr. Morrison (Chief Australian Treasurer), indicated that it is not possible for Reserve bank of Australia raised concern about the inability of the bank to reduce rate further in the economy. He also questioned whether the current day monetary policy tools are effective enough to do what they are intended to. This discussion on monetary policy and its effectiveness has been doing rounds after Wall street Journal published an article carrying out analysis of monetary policy and its current economic impact. Economists globally has questioned whether the monetary policy remains an effective measure anymore to reach to ailing economy. A recent journal released by International Monetary Fund, questions and studies the impact of monetary policy. The research highlights how monetary policy are now becoming ineffective even if the Central Bank of the country is front loading the policy rates. The reason sighted is the ultra-loose monetary policy maintained for too long and also the increase impact of global events across the world. Nowadays no country lives in isolation and the opening up of economies has brought in growth; but it also bought in concerns related to how economies and local markets reach when the going becomes tough in the larger economies. Countries like Britain, regions like Europe and Middle-East are still in fragile condition. The excessive use of Quantitative easing is also not helping matters, however economist over the world believes that QE is still a better measure for Central Banks than monetary policy. Discussion on effectiveness of the monetary policy In its last monetary policy review, Bank of Canada maintained the long term interest rate in the economy at percent. The corresponding bank rate stands in the economy at 0.75% and the deposit rate in the economy stood at 0.25%. This is a situation of an ultra-loose monetary policy which has been the stand for most of the developed nation since the events unfolded post 2008 recession across the globe. As per Bank of Canada, it is expected that global economy will gain traction in second half of 2016 and early part of 2017. It is believed that solid consumption theory and wave will take the momentum in the economy forward. The Bank of Canada is of the view that they will continue to be accommodating monetary policy conditions till most of 2018. The fiscal measures will also be in line with accommodative monetary policy stance. However as per Mr. Morrison view, it would be interesting to see how effective such monetary policy stance is under the current global economic scenario. Concern on the growth rate of the country and housing market troubles Recent macroeconomic data has suggested some amount of weakness in the economy. The Bank of Canada has failed in predicting the rate of growth in the country. The same fact has been acknowledged by Bank of Canada in its recent monetary policy review which was announced in October 2016. The main reason attributed for this slowdown or unpredictable growth rate is the unstable housing market. The housing market has been facing huge slowdown in Canada and that has been one of the major concern for the economy. The federal Government of the country has taken string initiatives to increase stability in the housing segment, however as of now no major improvement indicator has been visible. As per estimates from Bank of Canada it is expected that real GDP of the country will grow by 1.1% in 2016, followed by 2% in both 2017 and 2018. The core inflation in the economy is currently standing at 2% and it is expected to be nearby that number for a while now. What are the estimates of growth for the country? As per World Bank report it is expected that economy of Canada will grow by 1% in 2016 and 1.8% in next two years. The core inflation in the economy is currently standing at 2% and it is expected to be nearby that number for a while now. What are the global issues which are hurting the economy? There are many global issues which are ailing different economies of the world. At the one end of the world it is the BREXIT which is keeping the investors at bay, and on the other end it is the uncertain environment post the presidential election results in United States. BREXIT is now a known phenomenon, however whether the world will see a soft BREXIT or hard BREXIT is ailing the world markets. The stability has been hurt and markets are jittery. The world markets have reaped benefits of open economy system for years, and the referendum results in United Kingdom has raised question whether the world is moving towards a situation when closed or semi open system of economies again start gaining traction. Recently the Italian referendum results have added fuel to the debate. A hard BREXIT and supposedly similar reaction in different countries of Euro group has the capacity to bring havoc in the European Region. It is widely believed that in such a scenario, it is possible that the Eu rope Union will break and single region benefits will be lost. Deposit taking institutions in Canada There are many deposit taking institutions in Canada. They are regulated by the Bank of Canada, however the banking act do not have the same reporting standards for the same. A company which is issuing Commercial Papers dont need to provide any asset and liability management report on the daily basis. There are many payment banks which strives in keeping some small deposits of customers and help in meeting the payment needs digitally. Recommendation The Canadian Economy is facing huge concern in the housing market. This is one major concern for the economy and the resultant effects are already visible in the growth rate of the country. There is a need of strong fiscal measure and government policies to stop foreclosures in the housing market. Some amount of QE in the system can help the country revive back to predictable growth measures. As the article of Mr. Morrison suggested, the monetary policy effectiveness now needs to be questioned and studied. Running Errands and Doing Chores

Running Errands and Doing Chores Running Errands and Doing Chores Running Errands and Doing Chores By Maeve Maddox An English teacher from the Philippines wants to know the difference between errands and chores. The word errand is most commonly used in the sense of a short journey taken to perform some necessary duty. Some examples of errands are: taking or fetching clothes from the cleaners; taking mail to the post office; filling the car with fuel, taking sacks of leaves to the compost center, etc. The word errand comes from Old English à ¦rende message, mission. The message was usually carried by a servant or low-ranking soldier. Errand still has the connotation of something of minor importance that can be carried out by anyone. An employee might complain of being an errand boy if all hes allowed to do is unimportant work. The expression to go on a fools errand means to set out to accomplish something that turns out to be impossible to accomplish. Similar to going on fools errand is going on a wild goose chase. A chore can be simply a necessary domestic task such as vacuuming or taking out the garbage, or it can be used in the sense of a really tiresome, time-consuming task. Here are some examples from the internet of the two meanings of chore. Chore as household responsibilities Lets face it sometimes, doing your chores can be a drag! Doing household chores does not have to be boring or a waste of time. If you dont have time to go to the gym and workout or stay at home and lift weights, you can combine muscle building with doing household chores. PDP (Professional Development Plan) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

PDP (Professional Development Plan) - Essay Example 57). It is through such management skills that will not only help in the current situation, but also in others to come. Taking managing conflict and stress as my goal, I have been able to master management skills that help me overcome several situations around my life. I am married and currently pregnant with my child. I am studying abroad and my husband is currently at my home country. I have had to deal with some situations of conflict management and stress. In order to deal with my situation, my goal is to come up with a way on how I can manage conflict and stress. As a student, I occasionally encounter conflict from home in the sense that I have to balance between family and studies. There are my studies that demand my time, and there is also my husband whom I have to give time. Conflict sometimes usually arise when my husband calls just when I am getting ready for a presentation or a continuous assessment test. The two are equally indispensable to me and I cannot afford to ignor e one at the expense of the other. At the same time I have to maintain my pre-natal checks with my doctor at the clinic. For a while I was stressed when I could not find a solution. So what I did was to engage in critical thinking to analyse possible ways out. It was then that something clicked onto my mind. I resolved that rather than wait for my husband to call me, which he could do any time, I resolved I would call him whenever I was out jogging or in the clinic waiting to be attended to. These are activities that I do quite often so it guaranteed that I would be calling him that often. Besides, I also knew it would help us connect with our baby because I could inform him of our progress. This way, I was sure I would eliminate the apparent conflict and put to end things that stress me up. During my free time, I also resolved I would be reading some books that brighten my moods. Using that approach, I am certain that I will manage the issues that were previously a bother to me. Le arning Skills: Improve My Presentation skills In order to improve my presentation skills, I will have to focus on my communication skills. It is through effective communication that I will be able to put across my ideas and impact on my audience as I planned (McKay et al., 2009, p. 39). To begin with, I will be keen to focus on the clarity of the message. Many ideas end up being misunderstood and consequently not eliciting the expected behaviour just because they did not come out as envisioned. As such, I will focus on clarity of voice, word choice and concise explanation in all my presentations. Besides, I will also improve my presentation skills through appropriate facial expression so that my audience is also kept active and interested in the presentation. It has been observed that appropriate facial expressions help to amplify the message being conveyed especially when a vital point has to be made (Steele, 2009, p. 214). In addition, I would also improve my presentation skills b y accompanying my presentation with pictographs where applicable. For instance, where I need to emphasize on deviation from a previous market trend, I will use comparative graphs that indicate the old and the new trends. This way, my audience will be able to easily grasp my ideas and keep up with me. Besides, visuals also help other who may have missed the some bits of information orally. Something else that I will also do to improve my presentation skills is to practice my presentation before hand. Instead of waiting to

Research paper, chidren and junk food, what is the most influential Essay

Research paper, chidren and junk food, what is the most influential environment on children' love for junk food - Essay Example In this context social environment includes political and economic aspects outside the family environment. The thesis of the paper states that the family unit is better placed to deal which children food behaviors given the fact that it can regulate the impacts of social environment. Family environment is said to have the most significance impact on the choices children make especially with regard to fast foods. Mothers with a preference of junk food especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding are likely to pass the same eating choices to their children. According to a research by University of Adelaide, children can be addicted to high-sugar diet through maternal influence. The research urges that fast food is responsible for production of dopamine, which is a feel-good hormone. It remains active among the children born to mothers with high levels of the hormone. Such children will have to eat higher amounts of junk food to achieve the same stimulation. The research suggested that junk food is addictive. Some parents fall short of resisting children demands. The end result is that they give them money to purchase junk food. Fast food should be balanced with healthy food. Parents are expected to resist unhealthy demands from children especially with regard to fast foods. The internet has had a significant impact on the home environment (Whitacre 39). Parents rarely encourage healthy lifestyles for their children. In the United States, many children have television sets in their bedrooms (Whitacre 33). A rising percentage of children between 6 and 17 are said to have exposure to unhealthy food through television influence. This has led to increase energy intake through junk food. According to AAP, children should not have television sets in their bedrooms. Research indicates that a large number of children do not eat meals together with their family in most days of the week. This is encourages unchecked food behavior among children. According to studies, health y eating behaviors are said to develop when families take meals together. It is estimated that food prepared at home is more nutritious that take away or fast food. Families are better placed to regulate sugar intake and access to drinking water. This improves the food environment and minimizes the effects of fast foods. Parents are better placed to regulate the movement of children. This means they can limit access to retail venues that offer fast foods. The level of exposure and parental guidance plays a major role in the health and eating habits of a child. Parental advice can make children less susceptible to fast food campaigns (Whitacre 29). Research indicates that children tend to have parental preferences. Yet, few parents take time to discuss eating habits with their children. This has caused the social environment to overwhelm the family environment is some instances. There is a massive compaign against fast food. Some parents have rejected some schools on the basis on die t alone. Parents can influence the school diet by choosing institutions that are sensitive to children healthy diet. A compelling example is the schools that ban sodas and sugar-sweetened food. The role of social environment is expansive. Fast food bans for children would be welcome. This would mean banning some fast food restaurants that target children. It would also encourage banning fast food in school environments. The number of fast food chains has been increasing. The restaurants are available in local environments. Most of the choices

Why Cats Are Bad Pets Essay Example for Free

Why Cats Are Bad Pets Essay In ancient Egypt, they held cats up high for poise and grace; they even had a goddess cat, named Bast (Bastet). When Egyptians lost their cat, they would mourn as if they lost a family member. To kill a cat, even accidentally, was an automatic death sentence. Cats were believed to be guardians of the gates of hell, and to prevent demons, ghouls, and spirits from escaping, and prevent them from entering homes of humans. So why people find this animal cute, adorable, and friendly is beyond me. Who would want a pet that was held up to be a god? That people have killed over and treated like a human? That is associated with hell and all its demons? Animals aren’t human, so these cats should be treated exactly like pets. Not equals, not â€Å"man’s best friend†, but an animal. You can’t take them everywhere with you like you can a dog, and if you leave them home, they may pee everywhere, claw up the couch, get into everything they shouldn’t, and make a ridiculous mess. Cats are a bit messy. They like to sleep everywhere, and leave their hair of the couch cushions, curtains, comforter, and your clothes. They walk on your ledges, and if you have picture frames, candles, or any type of dà ©cor, they will knock it over. It’s just a given, you’ll come home to your things on the floor. It seems like every time you’re walking, or in the kitchen, they are right there by your feet, weaving too and fro as you are trying to get from one place to the other. It’s almost like they are trying to kill you. They have no respect for your personal space. If you’re sitting on one end of the couch, taking up only one cushion, they will feel obliged to jump up on your lap and stay there till you have to move. If you do move, and come back, good luck getting back on their good side, because they want nothing to do with you. They have a lot of diva in them. One minute they want every little bit of your attention, and the next they want nothing to do with you and will hiss if you as much as reach your hand out to them. Because of this attitude, they will choose to completely ignore you, even when called by name. They are worse than women going through menopause. Sure, you don’t have to bathe a cat like you do a dog. And that can be very time consuming and expensive, especially if your dog has allergic reactions to certain substances and chemicals, but who wants to let a cat lick you, knowing where their tongue has been? It’s just disgusting, filthy, and sickening. While it’s nice to not have to bath them, during each cleaning they ingest a small amount of hair and it accumulates until it grows into a wet hairball that they need to cough up on your expensive wood flooring, your new carpet, or your bed. Another nasty habit with cats is spraying. When an un-neutered male cat feels threatened, he will spray urine everywhere, as a way of marking his territory, and claiming what’s his. They don’t care where they spray. They will go all over your house if they want to. Who wants your cat leaving their stench on your couch, bed, floor, clothes, etc.? Not me. How many people do you see taking their cat with them on car rides? Or having a nice walk in the park? Absolutely no one. If you’ve ever brought your cat in the car, you know how loud, annoying and horrible it is, not only for them but you as well. The whole time, all you hear is their pitiful meow from the carrier, which is in the very back, covered in blankets to drown out the ear-splitting screeches. Trying to get them to go on a walk with you is like dragging a brick. They don’t want to leave the comfort of their home. Dogs on the other hand, love to go on walks, car rides are a special treat for them. They will play with you, train them to do tricks, and even dress them up for Halloween. Sure you have to give them a bath every now and then, but would you prefer to have a companion as a pet, or one that acts like a temper tantrum throwing toddler?

The Poem Negro by Langston Hughes Essay -- Poetry Analysis

The poem â€Å"Negro† was written by Langston Hughes in 1958 where it was a time of African American development and the birth of the Civil Rights Movement. Langston Hughes, as a first person narrator tells a story of what he has been through as a Negro, and the life he is proud to have had. He expresses his emotional experiences and makes the reader think about what exactly it was like to live his life during this time. By using specific words, this allows the reader to envision the different situations he has been put through. Starting off the poem with the statement â€Å"I am a Negro:† lets people know who he is, Hughes continues by saying, â€Å" Black as the night is black, /Black like the depths of my Africa.† He identifies Africa as being his and is proud to be as dark as night, and as black as the depths of the heart of his country. Being proud of him self, heritage and culture is clearly shown in this first stanza. The structure of this poem is not the traditional form of poetry, in that he begins with a first person statement then after an indentation, he elaborates on it almost lik...

Evolution of Management Thinking Essay

It was an era where so many alterations in the world Economy took place. In the closing decades of the 19th century there was a quest of seeking innovative ways to increase organizational efficiency and effectiveness. The Scientific Management Theory initiated on the basis of that. In this period of time crafts production was substituted by large factories in which a lot of technical revolutions have been taking place. The owners and managers were not capable of coping to these challenges therefore they hunted for advanced techniques to overcome this situation. As a solution the concepts of Job Specialization and division of labour came about. In this scenario workers who specialized in their respective tasks became more skilled. The Scientific Management Theory Fredrick W. Taylor was the architecture of the concept Scientific Management, â€Å"The systematic study of relationships between people and tasks for the purpose of redesigning the work process to increase efficiency†. It was believed that the most effective and efficient division of labour could best be determined by the concept of Scientific Management. There were four core principles in this concept. * Investigation and experimentation on organization performance * Codification of new methods/standards * Selection of employees according to codified standards * Establishing a level of performance and a pay system with rewards In 1910 most of the organizations were using this concept but selectively. Even though there was an increase in performance some disputes about this concept lead to an increase in trade union involvement. There were some major issues in this concept. * Availability of fewer jobs * Job dissatisfaction * Distrust among employees and employers. Some organizations redesigned the principles according to their vision. For example introduction of moving conveyer belts in Henry Ford’s factory can be taken in to consideration. However these approaches were not able to solve the emerged issues. Nevertheless Taylor’s work had a lasting effect on management production systems. Frank Gilbreth and Lillian Gilbreth who were the successors of Taylor studied how the working environment influences the performance of the employees. They made a heavy contribution in time-and-motion study. They demonstrated that by following arrangements organizations can solve their issues effectively. * Breaking up each job action into its components. * Finding better ways to perform the action. * Reorganizing each job action to be more efficient Administrative Management Theory Researchers attempted to discover how to create an organizational structure that leads to high efficiency and effectiveness. Theory of Bureaucracy was developed by Max Weber as a succession of these researches. Bureaucracy is basically a formal system of organization and administration designed to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. There were several principles in this theory. Weber identified several factors there should be in a bureaucracy system. Simultaneously Henry Fayol identified 14 principles that should be vital to increasing the efficiency of the management process according to his perspective. These studies of Fayol and Weber laid the foundation of modern management theory. Behavioural Management Theory This is the study of how managers should behave in order to motivate employees and encourage them to strive towards high levels of performance as an organization. In the previous theory there wasn’t a major concern about the employee viewpoint. Thus Mary Farker Follett explained why it is important to think about the human side of management. According to the studies of Follett managers should behave as coaches and facilitators –not as monitors and supervisors and the importance of direct inter communication between managers of different departments to make speedy decisions. She also promoted the concept of â€Å"cross functioning† which has been used in a great scale at present. Hawthorne effect is the discovery that a manager’s behaviour and leadership approach can affect the level of performance of employees. From this study emerged the concept of human relations movement. It is basically how the supervisors should be behaviourally trained to spice up worker’s motivation, cooperation and increase their productivity. Informal organization is one of the implications of Hawthorne effect. This is the system of behavioural rules and norms that come out in a group. The study of factors that have an impact on how individuals and groups react to in organizations has been identified as the organizational behaviour. Apart from these mentioned here the most significant approach was developed by Douglas McGregor. He supposed two different sets of assumptions which were named as Theory X and Theory Y. Management Science Theory This is a modern extension of Scientific Management Theory in this approach describes how precise quantitative techniques can be used in order to make the best use of organizational resources. Quantitative management emphasises on how arithmetic can be manipulated to achieve best practises in inventory and financial capital control. Operations management presents a set of techniques that can be utilized to improve production efficiency Total quality management focuses on the art of how the whole can be managed to achieve excellence. Management information systems provide the managers with adequate information about internal and external events of an organization to effective decision making. Organizational Environment Theory This is the set of conditions and forces that functions externally to the organization but affect a manger’s capability to acquire and utilize resources. This clearly stresses on how important it is to study the environment. The open systems theory and contingency theory developed in 1960 ascertains the importance of the importance of studying the environment. The Open –Systems View This is a system where external resources are acquired and converted into goods and services then sent back to customers for purchasing. And the cycle carries on. This system is considered as an open system. Organizations which use a closed system are likely to experience entropy, the tendency of a system to lose its ability to control itself and thus to dissolve and collapse. Contigency Theory It discloses that there is no best way to organize therefore characteristics of the environment affect an organization’s ability to obtain resources. Types of structures Above describes the differences between the structures. In conclusion managers in a Mechanistic structure can obtain inputs at a lower cost preferably in a stable environment and managers in an organic environment can react more quickly in a rapidly changing environment. These contributions constructed the foundation of modern management theories. References: New Era of Management Concepts and Applications 2nd Edition Richard L.
